| Justin Joseph Duffy was born June 14, 1977. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1995 and from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a degree in criminal justice, in 2000. He worked at Pizza Hut in Cozad during high school and college. He was also a doorman and bartender at Cunningham’s Journal in Kearney, while in college. Duffy worked at Eaton Manufacturing for six years where he was a supervisor until he left for the military. Duffy joined the Army in May of 2008 and left Fort Brag Nov. 21 for Iraq where he was stationed in Bagdad with the 82nd Airborn, Third Brigade, 38th Combat Team. His primary job was the protection of his Colonel and the Command Master Sergeant. Anytime the Colonel wanted to go anywhere in Bagdad, Duffy and his team were his security detail. “He went in and his design was to get into special forces,” Joe said. “He had he got into the Airborn; paratrooping, with the Third Brigade.” Mike Kelley, who not only worked with Duffy at Cunningham’s but also roomed with him for over a year described Joe as a man of few words who was there for his friends when they needed him.
